3/4 1:00 pm - Story: This feels like maybe a mash up of Dead Poets Society and maybe Goonies or something. I have to say that I’ve watched it a few times now and don’t really get it. By the end it feels almost like a joke. Is it a drama- triumph of the human spirit? Is it a comedy? Seems kind of like an inside joke that I don’t get.
Camera: This is pretty spotty. I like the opening shot of the train, and the shot of the three kids in the hallway. But then you have the Ken Burns thing on a still of the school and again in the shot of the kid hanging from the chandelier.
Lighting: Generally solid. I liked the shots with the headmaster or whoever he is. The shot in the forest with the flashlight is amazing.
Sound: Pretty spotty here too. Some dialogue I can’t even hear. The sound FX of the punch to the stomach was comically bad.
Editing: Again, kind of uneven. You’ve got some great stuff, and then you throw in those weird title cards that don’t fit at all. Doesn’t hang together for me as a whole.
Final thoughts: I think you’ve got skills, but I don’t think this project takes full advantage of them.
