  • 3/1 6:34 pm - Story: Very strong work here. I think you do an excellent job of establishing the premise and giving us enough to entice without giving it all away. I also appreciate the degree to which you give information visually. Yes, some of it comes out in dialogue, but good visual storytelling. Camera: Strong here too. Great variety of shot compositions, angles, and camera moves. And you have a very good sense of how to use them for maximum impact. I’m super-impressed with how well shot this is. Lighting: Maybe your weakest element here. Many of your interiors would look a lot better if you brought in some light. Even some of your exteriors seem to be exposed for the background, making your actor look dark and dull. Sound: Really strong here too. Well chosen music and your levels are generally really good. (Maybe a quiet line or two, but not many.) Sound FX are well chosen, levels are consistently good. I’m impressed. Editing: I like this too. I’ve got no real notes for you here. It flows well, you build pace in the right spots, your audio matches your visuals well. Good work Final thoughts: I hate to say it, but the real weakness is in the performances. Getting strong actors at this level is a tall order, but if you don’t have strong actors, it gives your work an unwanted comedic element. It doesn’t take away from all your other excellent work, but it does prevent you from having a truly polished end product.

Positives: Excellent job with the quick cuts and character development within a short video.

Improvements: A little stronger with the acting and less of the storyline; want to guess what will happen.

Judge 2

Positives: Effective opening drone shot to set tone – impressive visual style overall with use of moving camera and impressive trailer-editing technique. Premise was clear.

Improvements: Audio work could be much improved, particularly when recording dialogue sequences. Performances from actors could be more emotive to match the intensity of the premise and score.
