Entry Description

This is a movie trailer created for class. We decided to use our school as a backdrop to a thriller that has a hacker breaking into student accounts and causing havoc around the building.

  • 3/21 2:33 pm - Pros - The use of foreground obstruction in your shot compositions creates a very compelling voyeuristic theme to your trailer. The sound design adds to the unsettled, suspenseful feeling with the music choice and constant typing. Cons - I did not get any sense of what the story is about from watching this trailer. This is paramount when creating a project who's sole purpose is to entice your audience to see the full film. The editing was a little choppy near the beginning because it felt like the music was controlling the pacing. This only works if your imagery is providing the audience with compelling information, which this trailer failed to do. While the foreground elements were strong in some frames, it obstructed the action in others, like when the kid in the library is typing on his computer and the cut was so quick, there was no time to decypher what was happening, leaving the audience with a jarring feeling instead of focussing on the story. The titles could use work - try using a better font/different color/animation.
  • 3/8 9:19 am - I second the previous comments with the great shots, but the trailer should tell us a little more story. Also, watch your use of color value and light. Is it consistent? Is this what you want to communicate?
  • 3/7 1:31 pm - Positives: Great shots; I love the dimension of them, music goes well with keeping us suspicious and like the cuts that go with the music. I think we need a little more info overall on the story and what the hackers are actually hacking... Who else it's affecting, etc.
