Entry Description

This is a video that was made for our school's website that highlights the history and traditions of our high school. It includes historical pictures through the years as well as a look at famous alumni. We also include a look at our current students as they sing our fight song. It ends with an iconic film shot at our school.

  • 3/13 11:13 am - Nice use of Ken Burns effect to bring the still images to life; pan at :38 goes too fast; when adding text, be sure to consider the text color and background color to ensure readability; Ferris Bueller clip at the end seemed like an afterthought, could have been used with the John Hughes nod--felt out of place with the rest of the wrap-up at the end. CSPAN clip is a nice opener, but was it used with permission?

  • 3/12 9:15 am - I think this is a nice retrospective piece and it showcases the history of your school really well. The transition to "now" is nice way to finish off the piece; overall it has a nice feel! There's some powerful imagery here-- the President-- the Ferris Bueller clip-- but those iconic moments didn't take away from the black and white historical photos that you motion tracked throughout. Fight song seemed a little hot (audio) on my end?
  • 2/28 8:56 am - Good use of archived footage. A suggestion would be to duplicate the image and blur it in the background behind the clear image so that it can cover the full screen. Overall this is more of a slidehow using other people's videos and photos. I enjoyed the song montage at the end but it might be improved if the shots were varied.

Positives: Story - I like the use of archival photos.

Improvements: Sound - Maybe a selection of mics isn't available, but different shotguns and treatments could even out the singing in different environments. Story - Clinton could be covered by the b-roll for a portion.

Positives: Nice effects on the photos. I like the concept the school history to present.

Improvements: Very first titles were a little hard to read with the long shadow Middle section was pretty long, could have been condensed. Current students were a little hard to understand. The entire video could have been completed in 1:30.
