Youth Football and Head Injures - ID# 303

Crown Point
Division: A
Documentary

Entry Description

A short documentary on the subject of youth football and head injuries. With head injuries much focus goes into the NFL and their concussion protocols, instead of going back to the very beginning with 8 year olds taking their first hit to the head, starting the process. Interviewing ESPN's own John Jurkovic, Chicago Tribune's David Haugh, and some of Crown Point High school staff, head trainer Trent Trump, AD Bill Dorulla, and the school board president David Warne all contemplate on the modern day controversy .

  • 4/23 7:57 pm - Timely topic. Good in-depth, news magazine style. Good variety of i’view subjects. More clean, consistent techniques would have made this even better.
  • 3/8 4:08 pm - The standup reporter is speaking WAY TOO FAST! I see the standup, Chryrons, and it feels like a news package - what makes this a documentary rather than the extended duration? The voice over is read too fast. The two-shot with the LCD projector and screen is amateurish… Excellent narrative throughline and ambitious piece- just feels like longform news.
  • 3/5 3:41 pm - This is a great TV story, but not a documentary. You are reporting on a concussion - and you are doing it really well. There is a very clear through line, your interviews are shot very well although audio, including your own VO at times, needs tweaking. Camera is rock solid and framing without reproach. I love how you end the story! You've structured it very, very carefully.
