  • 4/23 7:09 pm - Give year & hometown - not “student” - in second row of ID. Wanted a longer, in-depth story on only one of them. Not enough shoot locations, features. Great Radio story, but for television and Internet - your target medium - there is huge demand for compelling b-roll.
  • 3/2 3:57 pm - Strong opening with music, V/O. Transition to second student is abrupt. They talk about their work, but it’s never shown. “Show don’t tell”. Filmwork on last student is strongest- as is the pacing in the edit. It’s hard to get a strong sense of reach character in such a short piece with 3 characters. Perhaps this should have been a profile of only one at this duration- there is no narrative arc- only vignettes of 3 people sharing a love of fashion.
  • 3/1 4:53 pm - I love the setting you have chosen to interview your subjects, very organic. B-roll is very creative, sound recorded very well, but I wish your film lead to something - it's unfinished and I hope that you will continue to work on it.

Positives: Very cinematic visual style and the pacing within each story was good.

Improvements: Although the content in each story was good, I felt a slight disconnect from one story to the next. Consider fixing the audio edits between and creating a stylized element of transition to create the seamless continuity it needs. I felt like I watched 3 clips about 3 people - not a short doc with 3 main characters -

Judge 2

Positives: Cinematography and lighting were done well.

Improvements: Story needed focusing. Would have liked to see more actual fashion through stock photos/footage. Seemed too short to convey the entire story.

Judge 3

Positives: The subjects are interesting to listen to because the interviews were conducted well. The balance of interview footage and b-roll showing the subjects playful, creative sides complements what they are saying and deepens our connection.

Improvements: The film starts abruptly and the intro seems to be cut off. Thinking about a introductory image at the beginning relating to the film’s theme and an ending image uniting the three subjects would tie the film together more clearly.
