  • 3/1 6:59 pm - Story: This is where you could use some work. I really only get the sense that there’s a haunted sister and her name seems to be Julia. That’s really not a cool enough concept to catch my attention. Camera: Some cool stuff here. I like your idea of starting on the tube of make-up or whatever. (But it should be on a tripod, not handheld.) The slo-mo shot of it landing is simple and effective. But most of your camerawork feels lazy. Some shots are unintentionally out of focus. Even the shot of Julia stepping into the slit of the curtain is a little bit off. The good news is that you help yourself out quite a bit with your editing. Lighting: Quite a few issues here too. I know it’s a horror film, but you really should bring in some fill light if possible so it’s not just a jumble of muddy shots. Sound: Solid work here. Your V.O. sounds pretty good- your recording level might be a bit high, but I like that it’s not thin and echoey. Good music tracks and your levels are pretty good. My biggest note here is that you could fade in and out of your music track more smoothly and completely. Editing: This is the strength of the trailer. It looks like you have fun editing, and you have a good sense of pace and mood. The eerie beginning, the pause when the sister looks over the bed, the quick cuts of creepy shots- it’s all good stuff. I just wish you had better shots to work with. Final thoughts: If you piece together more of a story (or concept of a story) and shoot it with more attention to detail, you could have something pretty cool.
