• 3/4 8:55 am - Story: Overall, this is very impressive work. One area that I think could use some work is the story. I get that it’s some kind of action adventure space thing where the 16 year old dad has to save the world from like aliens or a conspiracy or something. I think this would be stronger if we knew more than that. This reminded me of Interstellar or The Martian, but both of them have a specific premise for the viewer to get invested in. And I really wish you didn’t have the girl calling the lead actor Daddy. He’s way too young to be a parent, and it becomes unintentionally comedic and kind of ruins the reality you’re trying to create. There’s so much good work here that I hate to see undermined by little details like that. Camera: Very strong work here. From your drone shot, to rack focus, simple but effective camera movement. Overall excellent attention to detail and execution. One shot that baffles me is the slo mo of him running with the school bus in the background. Completely pulls me out of any sense of reality you’ve created. Lighting: Really strong here as well. I’m especially impressed with your low light shots just before the rocket launch. You use fill light very effectively to keep it from being a muddy mess. Sound: Good work here too. I’m not sure I love your music track, but it’s fine. Your levels are good, sound FX are good, dialogue might be a little hot on a couple lines, but that’s getting pretty nit-picky. Editing: Super impressive here as well. Special FX are great, the whole thing flows, and your attention to detail is terrific. Final thoughts: Very strong effort here. Kudos.

Judge 1

Positives: Really like the jump between running and prepping for the mission; excellent contrast. Not sure what editing program, but the transitions and effects are excellent.

Improvements: I know you guys have a budget, but be a little more creative with the space suit. Also, hint more at the alien (hear the noise) somewhere else in the trailer. Also, I know he is supposed to be "older," but maybe make it a brother rather than a father-daughter connection.

Positives: Very ambitious and impressive! Distinct visual style and use of production design and VFX. Well done.

Improvements: Performances could be improved to match the depth of the visuals. The soundtrack after the launch seems a little out of place – the track is a little more 'uplifting' than the tone and narrative.
