  • 4/25 8:23 am - Pros - You have a very good sense of light and dark and your strongest compositions are when you use them in the extremes. The most striking shot is the whole piece had to be the silhouette shot with the back-lit smoke. It was incredibly clear and stimulating to the viewer. You have a large variety of shots in many different lighting situations, which helps to show range and emphasizes your strongest skill as a cinematographer thus far, which is your understanding and use of lighting, so keep developing that! Cons - The overall movement of the majority of the shots needed to be smoother (0:12, 0:29, 1:15). The idea behind them was good but the execution fell short and ended up as more of a distraction. Keep shooting takes and making adjustments until you are happy before you move on to the next shot. The dancing (1:00) has a nice payoff, but starts so dark, it's hard to much of anything. I don't have story context for the soldier's closeup (0:44), but try to avoid profile closeups in key emotional moments - we need to see both eyes. You are a few small tweaks away from being awesome, so keep shooting!
  • 3/12 10:53 am - Smoke/Steam shots are interesting. The one with the hooded guy was blurry and dark...not sure of its purpose. Good transitions. Liked the after-effects effect at the end. Good steady movement
  • 3/12 8:02 am - Some interesting shots, nice tracking and I like the way you frame shots. The black and white is particularly nice
  • 3/1 3:52 pm - Great composition: I love the shot indoors of a person rocking back and forth by the window. Great composition, smooth movement and it's dark - pretty brave choice and I love it.Your CU are right on the money. I wish you did not include the CU right before the shot with the "smoke" in it. It's obvious you are hand holding and the camera is in autofocus! It's ruining your reel. Keep filming!
