Entry Description

I wrote and directed this piece about finding motivation and overcoming depression. It's based on some real events in my life, and I found that making this film helped me work through some challenges I had faced.

  • 3/11 4:59 pm - Story: My big note about story is that it’s awfully expositional. You give virtually all of the info in dialogue which is pretty dull after a while. I don’t get the back story in particular. Are these supposed to be kids or adults? Why are they eating sandwiches and juice boxes but sitting across from each other in a formal dining setting? What’s the significance of the abandoned film? Is the ghost there just to justify the title? Why is the dude sitting in that goofy looking helmet? Is removing the helmet supposed to signify him taking off his emotional armor? Is the giant A hoodie from Alvin and the Chipmunks? I don’t get any of these things. What’s with kissing her on the head? Were they lovers? If so, why’s he kissing her like a dad? Camera: Some basically good work. But during the dinner scene, you were crossing the line all over the place. It really is a bit confusing. Most of your camera work is solid but not especially interesting or creative. Lighting: Solid job with this. You do an especially good job considering your low light situations. Nice job bringing in fill and exposing your actors well. Sound: Solid work here as well. My one beef is with that high pitched beep. Almost painful to listen to. Editing: Generally proficient. Someone taught you well. Final Thoughts: You clearly have a lot of skill. I’d love to see what you could do with a story that both makes sense and is actually compelling.
