  • 4/24 11:32 am - I really like the B roll. Composition was thoughtful and well done. The lighting, set and camera movement were interesting on the 4 hosts. Lighting on the father could have been brighter. The piece didn't really communicate a clear story.
  • 4/16 8:46 am - This is really well produced and plays into that E:60 style of storytelling in Sports. Only :30 of the piece is shot in studio and the rest is a terrific short form documentary piece on fencing. The opening is compelling, the reporters intro at the table is very much E:60. Nice job!
  • 3/5 5:42 pm - Positive: Introduction to the package helped set the scene for the story. Creative way to tell the story of the brothers especially bringing in the father for the back story. Creative and effective shots and use of pictures to tell the story. The trophy with the father did not go unnoticed. Improvements: There was a reflection of lighting used in the interview with the brothers that was distracting. Camera was shaky, which I'm sure was on purpose, but distracting during the opening.
Judge 1

Positives: The opening sequence was great. Very creative and entertaining. I liked the music during the fencing story. It kept the piece moving and entertaining. Sound and editing were all great.

Improvements: I think you took a creative risk in with your anchor setup. I liked the different closeups, but why didn't you use a tripod? It was very shaky and the shots weren't great. Not sure if this is the normal talent, but remember women like sports too. Be mindful of your background when doing an interview. Camera light was reflecting behind the brothers. The brothers pronounce their last name differently than the reporter. Listen to him say his last name 3 times from 2:35-2:45. Then listen to the reporter at 2:54

Positives: Nice story of brothers bonding with their dad through fencing. Good idea to shoot the brothers together.

Improvements: Would like to have seen more personal photos of the boys when they were younger. Not sure if the brothers and the father were interviewed in the same place. If they were, it would have been nice to see some broll of the three of them together.
