  • 4/26 11:59 am - Pros - The lighting design and the camera movement are spot on. They help set the eerie mood and support the feelings of suspense and unsettlement through out the trailer. I particularly liked the sequence where Freddie appears at the end of every hallway and his hand grabs hold of the girl against the locker. This is your strongest closeup in the entire trailer because without dialogue or much background information (other than relying on the audience's familiarity with the Elm Street series), you lay out the premise and payoff with the point of attack all in the span of 60 seconds. Cons - The sound design is strong from a music standpoint, but the line freddie delivers when he first appears is very hard to hear/understand. I also would have suggested showing less of his face in this moment - it is really the only shot that screams "student film". The editing left a little to be desired, particularly as the pacing quickened and the heroine is searching for a way out. The clever sequence of Freddie at every turn is juxtaposed with a shot of her looking around. This could have been strengthened with intercutting by setting up the effects shot with her looking around first, going to the shot, and coming back to her at the end. This would help put the auidence in the drivers seat and connect more with your character.
  • 3/9 1:27 pm - I loved it. Especially the running scene. You did a great job of showing movement with the camera with very stable shots.

Positives: The effect with her spinning and have Freddy in each scene was very well done. Also, only show his shadow was a good "trailer" before showing the face and such.

Improvements: More a scene than a trailer. Also, the audio seemed ripped/downloaded from the actual movie, which doesn't quite match up.

Judge 2

Positives: Clever, effective camera moves and whips, and impressive editing style (particularly when the camera whips as the violin crescendos).

Improvements: Would love to see this skill utilized on an original narrative.
