  • 3/4 8:12 am - Story: In terms of the Film Fest, this will be disqualified because it 2:30 and the time limit is 1:30. So there’s that. From a story perspective, this has promise, but it has problems too. The pace is very slow for a trailer. I initially thought it was submitted in the wrong category and I was watching the actual film. The use of flashback is a good device, but my big note is that too much is revealed here. A trailer should entice the viewer to want to see the movie. Here we see the parents get shot and the mime take her own life. There’s nothing left to find out in the actual film. Camera: Some interesting framing of the parents in the mirror in the dining room. The wide shot of the girls on the theater stage is interesting too. Lighting: Solid job here. Shooting in a black box theater can be tricky, and I think your lighting basically works. Sound: Basically solid. Good music track, but I wish it faded all the way out at the end. It also occurs to me that adding gunshot sound FX might be more impactful than hearing the actor whispering a bang sound. I didn’t understand the parents whispering the argument- or maybe it was just the father. If the deal is that they can actually talk, I wouldn’t make it ambiguous. Editing: Solid work here. The title cards didn’t dazzle me, but I liked the gradually increasing color saturation after she kills the parents.
