  • 4/25 8:34 am - Pros - Fantastic use of color, both through light and subject/objectivity within the frame throughout. Your closeups are without the question the strength of your work; capturing those small moments of emotion (little girl's CU) and conveying that emotion to the viewer is incredibly challenging and you made it look easy. Your color correction is spot on and not the least bit overworked, which can be common at this age level. Composition and framing is strong, clearly defining the subject and purpose of the shot. This is an exceptional piece...keep shooting! Cons - The focus struggled at times, particulary in a couple of the moving shots. Use your depth of field to your advantage when composing movement and make distance references in order to ensure your subject does not go soft.
  • 3/12 10:52 am - Love the steady shot overlooking cliff's edge! Lens flares are good. Shots are vibrant. Shots of color run and people glowing in the dark are beautiful. Love the variety of colors and brightness you incorporated on your shots. Nice close-up shots.
  • 3/12 7:49 am - Love the use of lens flare and backlighting, good choices of time of day for interesting light. nice angles. The daylight shots are stronger than the ones with the theatre lighting and represent a stronger eye

Positives: Great use of available light. Great composition on shots. Good timing on edits.

Improvements: I would like to see more of different images. Too much of the same.

Positives: -You had some great camera movement that articulated your ideas. When we push out over the edge of the cliff, that movement creates a lot of tension, because we're falling over the edge - which accentuates your point of view on that situation. You're telling a mini story with just a single shot. Same goes when we follow your friend through the woods. The movement with him allows the audience to feel like they're also a part of this journey; an effect that would not have happened had the camera been locked off. -You had great use of color throughout.

Improvements: -The sun flare trick is cool and you used it well here, but it was a little over used. It is an inherently interesting technique, but in something like a DP reel, people want to see more diversity of lighting setups. -This is a nitpick, but your really cool floor tracking shot of all the girls dancing in the gym goes on just a little too long. We don't want to see them go off center at the end. I'd recommend cutting out of that shot just a bit sooner - so you don't reveal that mistake.

Positives: Very nice video. Editing was done well in coordination with the music. Composition and motion of cameras were smooth and looked professional. You had a lot of very creative shots.

Improvements: I am struggling to think of things you could do to improve it. A couple of shots I would have slowed down a bit.
