  • 4/25 10:10 am - Pros - Outstanding piece of work. Great use of lighting, both natural and artificial. The closeup of the evergreen at 0:50 is absolutely striking. It combines an effective use of the back light to both edge the bush and illuminate the snowflakes (which are wonderfully soft in the background). Your use of closeups are strong, composition and framing are spot on. Color correction is good. Overall, camera movement is very smooth and, without narrative context, seemingly purposeful. I could go on, but am fearful of reaching the character limit for this post. Exceptional work...Keep shooting!! Cons - Not a lot to pick out here. The movement of the opening shot could be smoother; do as many takes as necessary until you are satified with the shot. There is a spot on the lens in the upper right third for the shot of the skate boarder at 1:00. Check your lens often for debris and clarity (if it feels like you're doing it too much, you're probably doing it enough).
  • 3/12 6:25 pm - I love the balance between interior and exterior shots: you are thinking about lighting and how it impacts your frame. Your camera movement is rock steady and composition is right on the money.
  • 3/12 10:49 am - Shots were well balanced, fit well with the music. Shots were clear, all convey a different meaning. Nice job
  • 3/12 7:40 am - beautiful colors. good choice of angles, well thought out locations with the right light

Positives: Beautiful images. Great use of overcrank. Great lighting.

Improvements: No improvements. A future cinematographer!

Positives: -Obviously you have a nice camera, which is enabling you to achieve higher quality shots than most. You got that high dynamic range, slow motion, high resolution - it looks good. It's hard to compare this to the other applicants, because you have access to a more advanced tool than they do. Nonetheless, the shots are well considered and you're certainly using the equipment competently. Keep it up.

Improvements: -The only shot I wasn't super impressed with was the shot of the guy drumming. With a reel, you're saying "I stand by all these shots as my best work." So you don't want to have some ok shots in with your great shots, because then people get the impression you think that's an excellent shot. But it stands out amongst the rest as the weakest, so I'd just cut it out on your next reel.

Positives: Your examples of being able to use light are great. The smoothness of your shots are outstanding and your choice of music works great with your video.

Improvements: I would work on the transitions making sure they coordinate with the beat of the music. Some of them seem to but not everything was in tempo or in rhythm with the other shots. It wasn't bad it could just be improved. NICE JOB!!!
