Entry Description
This was a product produced by GBN Broadcasting's Hoops Production Crew. The crew consists of about twenty broadcasting students and is a five camera shoot, including three cameras (left, center, right), and two wireless cameras down on the court. We also have instant replay, a scoreboard operator, audio engineer, a director and a technical director. The announcers are from our sportscasting class.

- 4/26 7:37 am - Home huddle shot didn’t work; just because you have several cameras doesn’t guarantee great shots from all of them/all of the time. 0:40 – too tight, shaky. Take hero cam quicker; it should be setup on tripod next to wide cam. Lots of crowd cutting into wide cam; can it be setup higher to avoid backs of heads?
- 4/25 8:38 am - First inbound play was missed by the camera. Should have used the wide shot instead of trying to isolate and guess. At the 1:45 mark when the ball is brought up by GBN and their is a foul, the play was missed for the same reason, using that tight shot and losing track of the basketball. Rest of the coverage was really good especially impressed by the play-by-play announcer and color analysts. Play-by-play could identify easily players on the opposing team which is always a challenge in high school basketball. Announcers didn't over call the action but provided the proper amount of excitement to keep the audience interested. Impressive broadcast team and great work from the top camera.
- 3/12 8:21 am - Three person booth is tough to pull off and do well, but it seemed like the two color analysts picked their spots to talk in this clip. Sometimes there were some comments that seemed to impede on the play-by-play announcers description of the action. it's always nice to know one's roll and not vacate that job so the whole production feels cohesive. There wasn't much reaction captured during this clip, fans, coaches, etc. You guys follow the ball and there seems to be a nice pace to the production.
- 3/3 9:51 am - Positive: Obviously, we have a lot of angles to view the action. Good scoreboard with time to follow the game. The announcer and commentators knew basketball. They were able to talk about the game fairly fluidly. We didn't miss any of the action.
- 3/3 9:51 am - Improvements: In the comments, you mention instant replay. We didn't see any of that displayed, but there were a few opportunities. I would have liked to have seen a little of that incorporated if it was available. The top camera seemed to be positioned slightly lower than it should have been. I'd like to see the lower cameras from an under-basket viewpoint at some point. Also, it would be nice to capture a bit more of the emotion of the game, which would require you to zoom in one of the five cameras. The white balance on all five cameras were not all set to the same Kelvin setting. There was a noticeable shift between a couple of shots. The announcer and commentators didn't mesh as well as other productions I heard. And volume levels of the two or three that I heard were inconsistent.

Positives: Good angles and quality of audio and video. Good cuts to floor-level camera shots when play stopped as well. Announcers, for the most part, sounded credible with a few stumbles.
Improvements: Be prepared to cut quicker from team huddle shots so we're not witnessing the on floor camera operator trying to hurry and get out of the way of the players when the huddle breaks. Anticipating the timing of this and cutting to a wider shot sooner will help to avoid this and give another angle for the viewer to enjoy.
Judge 3
Positives: Announcers were excellent. Enthusiastic and did not talk over each other which happens often with young broadcasters. Third announcer brought insight and good information to viewer.
Improvements: Audio was a bit unsteady at times.
Would have liked to have seen more use of wireless court cameras.
