  • 4/18 10:00 am - Nicely recorded VO and good upbeat music choice. A lot of the CU shot compositions work very well, and the oven time lapse was a nice touch. Make sure to have your tripod locked down completely and your iris set when using stills that add or subtract subjects. It is easier to start with you last shot and work your way backwards so you can figure out the framing first. The text throughout the video may not have been necessary.
  • 3/12 10:21 am - Nice music, fits the mood. Clear narration (both voice and script). Looks Delicious! Shots are clear and well framed. The next step would be to think about other things the audience might want, or trying to hook the audience to begin with. you are assuming that the audience wants to learn about this, which is fine, but you might want to consider ways to get them interested in the topic to begin with. Maybe some shots of people enjoying the final product. I have seen other videos like this, and this is a good example of what you were going for.

  • 3/5 2:11 pm - what works: good subject and delicious, well recorded voice-over, nice time lapse shot in oven, good close up shots of food make it look appetizing. what would make it better: more of an intro in beginning; complete details in steps, ex: measuring vanilla, grease skillet, consistent product name; attention to lighting; backgrounds that appear in frame; lower music mix; lock down tripod for smoother jump cuts.
  • 3/5 12:33 pm - Very good use of shots to tell the process. Shots were well composed and varied. The use of close ups and time lapses were effective at showing the mixing and baking processes. Lighting appeared even. Your show was thoroughly explained and contained enough detail to make a viewer feel like they could re-create your product. Your voice over narration was pleasing to listen to and the levels were mixed well. My main issue for improvement lies with the text. Have you considered what the look of the video might be without the titles? I don't think they were necessary to the success of your piece, and your chosen font was a bit distracting and some of your titles were not on screen long enough to read easily. Also, a number of your titles fell outside of title safe, meaning there were times when some of the characters were off the edges of the screen. The song you chose was repetitive. I think it was a decent choice for this piece, but putting it a bit lower in your mix would have lessened the repetitive feel.

Positives: Well written script, very clear and easy to follow. Loved the graphics and the special effects with ingredients. Lighting very natural. Well composed camera shots.

Improvements: Music was bit loud and interfered with narration at times.

Positives: This was very straight forward and the directions seemed easy to follow. The camera focused on what was important at the time. I think that the demonstration was clear and appealing. I wish there was more delight and fun

Improvements: The temperature should have been given earlier so that someone following the recipe would be ready to go into the oven. You needed a measurement for the vanilla and I think knowing what utensils, bowls and baking dishes earlier would help the watcher prepare to work along with the demo. I think the background music was dated, repetitive and a little too loud.

Positives: The overall presentation worked very well. The colors were rich, the lighting looked very good. It doesn't look as if you used natural lighting and took the time and care to model the lighting. The pacing of your edit was just about right. You introduced new information so your project was easy to follow and you kept the presentation moving at a good pace. The camera work was very effective. It was very easy to see the actions. You used a variety of interesting camera angles. The shot inside the over is great!

Improvements: One thing that would help occurs in the beginning shots where you are adding ingredients to the cookie pan. Be very careful to keep everything from getting bumped, including the lighting. There are little light pops where you stopped the camera to add a new ingredient. That is probably from the auto exposure feature omn your camera. You can disable all of the auto features and that won't happen. But you have to make some other adjustments to the camera or the exposure will be off. But make sure you know how to make all of the exposure compensations before doing a shoot like that.
