  • 4/25 2:23 pm - Good movement in shots - well-cut to the music. Grading feels off in several shots. Lyrical fluid movements throughout. Good diversity of shooting and well-edited.
  • 4/24 12:41 pm - Pros - Tons and tons of variety in this reel and every shot is executed in a way that showcases a very high skill level. Movement is smooth and focus is spot on. Good control of natural and artificial lighting sources. Color Corrections ability helps dial in shots to their fullest potential. All around great project. Cons - Movements are strong, but often saved by time manipulation. The variable frame rates are cause for distraction at times.

Positives: You have many very striking and well composed shots that show off creativity and skill with a camera (:29-:43, :58, 1:07, 1:14, 1:26) You show off a variety of techniques and styles that show a good diversity (ie drone shots, landscapes, human subjects, action, camera movement, and stop motion). This does a great job of demonstrating a diversity to your skills.

Improvements: My main issue with your reel is that it is inconsistent. You have a lot of great shots in here as I mentioned but you have many that are not good at showing off your talents. The sky replacement and graphic effects shots such as the birds don't polished enough to include in a reel. Some of your shots just don't look good enough to include in a reel (:21, :24, :57) or they look like mistakes (:44) Would like to see more shots that show your work with controlled interior lighting. This is one of the most difficult things to master so its important to show more of that to potential people who might want to hire you.

Positives: Your drone control and movement is professional. Great work I'm practicing with the device in gaining that skill. Great stop motion animation. Never mind the clay work, the actual technique Thelma clearly was done very well. Your color grade is a bit flat in certain shots, however in some shots they look fantastic. Real good variety of types of shots. As a cinematographer you need to be able to shoot documentary and narrative both well.

Improvements: the problem is exaggerated by a longer lens. Try not to whip the camera around too much. I like the fast shutter speeds in the fight scenes, however and the other scenes they were distracting. Again your shutter speed should be double your frames per second as a rule to create a cinematic look.

Positives: You had a very nice range of shots. Your cuts from shot to shot were done nicely. I also really like the shot with the pigeons flying by. You did a nice job working with speed ramping on some of the arial shots.

Improvements: Though I liked your editing I think one thing you could have done better was to make some of your cuts sync up with the beat of the music. That helps the video flow and it really brings the music and the video together like they belong together. You were close to over using the arial shots.
