  • 4/25 2:08 pm - Excellent shooting overall - I appreciated the turn, exemplified with good sound when the Ferrari sequence comes. The editing also works well with the music. Appreciate that you limited obligatory GoPro and drone shots - which are abused these days. Way to go!
  • 4/23 2:30 pm - Pros - very strong use of natural light. Compositions are well balanced and the location adds to the grandiose of your landscape shots. You can clearly frame strong shots under natural lighting conditions. Movements are smooth and editing helped mask shaky moment, like in shot at :13. The time-lapse at 1:26 and the composite at 1:09 are very impressive. Cons - The are no examples of your artificial lighting skills present, but given the theme of the piece, is not entirely necessary but it is a big part of Cinematography. Your biggest weakness in this piece is achieving consistent sharp focus (:30, :49). These are shots where your principle subject is soft and distracts the viewer. Would have liked to see a rack in shot at 1:41. Overall very strong work and a top tier project.

Positives: Your camera composition, movement, and framing is top notch. You have a great eye for a well camera work. Nice use of a variety of cameras and movements (ie drones, gopro, jibs)

Improvements: Although your outdoor shots generally look great you have nothing here that demonstrates interior controlled lighting situations. It doesn't show a whole lot of versatility to the lighting, You show darker scenes such as at :34 but this is far too dark and underexposed. Would like to see more shots with human subjects presented in a more narrative focused way. (Faces, Closeups, Medium shots, people in action) There are some but I think you need to display more examples of how you capture expression, skin tones, character movement, and shot sizing. This helps to show the people who might want to hire you that you have a range of versatility beyond nature and product shooting.

Positives: Absolutely beautiful product shots and fantastic time lapse work. Particularly with the statue. That is a very tough technique to pull off. It takes time and effort. In terms of nature videography this is top-notch student work. Drone footage looks great. Always make sure to check with local restrictions when you put the aircraft up. How many times young videographers put Jones up in restricted places and that can cost you a lot of money. Be careful at beaches because they tend to be preserves and that tends to be restricted airspace. I also love the variety of equipment that you highlighted in this piece.

Improvements: When you shoot into the sun, use a ND filter. Not sure what type of camera you are shooting on but be cognizant of the make and model and its native ISO. You want to stick as close as possible to the native ISO to eliminate noise in your image. The noise can even Sneak into images that are shot in the daylight. Some of your shots halfway through this product highlight digital noise in daylight.

Positives: I like the sounds effects, they really add to your video. The opening title is done vey nicely. Great arial shots and under water shots. Very beautifully done and I could tell you a lot more about what you did right but don't have the space.

Improvements: Some of the cuts could have been timed better with the music. I think you could have done without the mustang shot, it didn't seem to add anything to the video. (That takes a lot for me to say as I love mustangs)
