  • 3/2 6:50 pm - Good teasers at the beginning and opening video. Good start to a solid program. Talent was a good reader and led the show well. Not impressed with the graphics used- a simple red background with a less than professional font in white could be improved a lot. B-roll was good- would like to have seen more of it. Background set was . nice, but got very distracting with the constant moving videos playing during the host talk. Was nice in the opening, but a less distracting background would help us focus more on the host in the show. Ending of the show was very abrupt and rushed- don't be afraid to go back to an official closing video and bring some music back in to end it. Although the host did a fine job, I would have liked to have at least from someone else- an interview, a guest? Overall, a solid and quick program that will get everyone caught up to speed on your sports.
  • 2/28 12:21 pm - Top notch show; great host with a lot of natural talent, very articulate, and clearly comfortable being on camera. Production value is very evident; the set and background is excellent. Great graphics, great pictures and b-roll. Only thing I would say is that more roll-in clips or highlights from the games would be better. But you definitely had plenty of material. Opening sequence was nice, music was appropriate. Your lighting was consistent, your audio levels were consistent. Respect where it is due - this program is definitely a finalist in my opinion, which says a lot because I am the harshest and most real judge.

Positives: - Lots of information packed into this one. A thorough and well-written recap of lots of different sports. - The host's presentation was engaging - you can tell he knows and cares about the subject matter.

Improvements: - Full screen graphics: the font is hard to read, and graphics could be more consistent. Some of the calendar graphics listed a date, while others did not. The football schedule just listed opponents, no dates. Try to work on consistency and usefulness of the information you're providing. - Would love to see more b-roll footage of the various sports in action, especially during the spring recap at the start of the show. This would help break up some of the monotony of going from host to full screen and back. It was effectively used in the girls' soccer segment.

Positives: Excellent production value! Really nice lighting. Very nice chroma keyed set. Nice montage with high energy and music. Nice graphics in the opening montage. Nice editing. Very well-Spoken talent. He is very natural, has a great presence and is very confident. Good eye contact also maintained throughout.

Improvements: This show has such high production value and exceptional technical merit. It was a little bit surprising, however, to see the title cards presented the way they were. The font choice and color scheme could be more legible. Furthermore, the title cards feel like they could be more carefully and creatively created to match the majority of the show. There are points where these cards feel like they are up for too long and could benefit the show by cutting to another camera angle (if there is one), or better yet--more of the b-roll of the teams. The TVs in the background are cool, but most effective the first time we see them. As the shot appears subsequently, the motion of the b-roll inside becomes a little distracting. As mentioned, perhaps cutting to another camera angle of the host could give another look to the set, where the TVs do not need to be always present.

Positives: This was a very packed broadcast with outstanding news and information on a multitude of sports teams. It was quick paced with plenty of pertinant information on each team and their perfomances. It felt like team was given a fair and equal amount of time and content. The opening montage was excellently produced. The talent is very polished, it felt like he had been doing this for long time. It was a strong and confident perfomance.

Improvements: One production element that could be improved is the slate of graphics information. The coloring and font was distracting and could be improved. The information could be more sophisticated to match the script the anchor is reading. While the talent was excellent, it would be a good addition to have some other sound in the mix. Possibly one of the coaches or players talking about the winning championships. That could be a substitute for the graphic slate.
