  • 4/26 7:09 am - I don’t feel like this is a news story because it is many of the people just sharing their opinions on basketball but as a viewer I don’t know what I should walk away with. Would have like more of a variety of b-roll all of your shots were generally wide cover shots.
  • 4/25 4:34 pm - 1. You selected an appropriate subject for this piece. Sports leagues like this one often get overlooked even though they perform a valuable function. 2. The inclusion of audio from the games is important. The "sounds of the game" give the viewer a broader understanding of this league and the intensity with which the games are played. 3. Your interviews add personality to the piece, but the silliness compromises the project's informative value. A little humor belongs in this piece, but it should not dominate. What are some other aspects of this league that would be of interest to your audience? 5. Continue to work on providing the viewer with a steady diet of quality b-roll. In the future, avoid getting most of your b-roll from just a few camera positions. Move around and do not be afraid to your camera in some created locations. 6. Pay careful attention to your focus. Some shots seemed a bit soft.
  • 4/23 2:29 pm - I like the sounds at the start of the piece, and it helps to set the tone for the story. The issue is that the interviews are not mic'd and that become a distraction for the viewer because it is hard to hear the subjects when they are talking. To fix this try to put a mic on them and do not just rely on the camera mic for the interview. Also, try not to have two subjects in one interview shot, the one person is stuck just sitting there. Try not to frame the subjects in the middle of the shot, try to move them to the side. I am not sure I get a full story here, which would have helped make it even stronger.
  • 4/10 1:21 pm - The interviews overall look and sound good, but make sure to bring the tripod up to eye level to avoid the upward angle that makes the subjects appear large and looking down. I would have liked to see a bigger variety in framing choices with the b-roll other than a constant wide shot. It is hard to follow action with sports(especially so close to it!) but it helps to follow individual players rather than the ball to get tighter shots. The gameplay audio works well underneath the interviews, but pay attention to the levels. At times it seems to drown out the interviews so just be sure to dip the levels slightly as the interviewees speak.
  • 3/10 11:26 am - SET-UP ON OTHER SIDE OF COURT TO AVOID “REF’S BUTT” AND TO SEE THE CROWD IN BLEACHERS AND/OR PLAYERS ON BENCHES (CHAIRS). USE MUCH MORE NATSOT BETWEEN BITES. GOOD JOB BRINGING INTERVIEW SUBJECTS INTO QUIETER HALL. 1:05 - TOUGH SHOOTING FAST-MOVING BODIES OFF TRIPOD SO CLOSE TO ACTION. BETTER OFF GOING HAND-HELD. TRIPOD WORKS MUCH BETTER FROM UP-TOP. CUTE CLOSE.
