  • 4/3 1:35 pm - As beginners I see no fault in paying homage to a style of show. Place people farther away from the background and light the background to get rid of harsh shadows. Better to have all your talent looking consistent. Great use of b-roll to fit what you were speaking about. Put the mic wires under the shirt it just looks sloppy. Graphics look good. The information flowed well and was interesting.
  • 3/2 6:26 pm - Although not an original idea, it was a good take on a popular show. Your talent speaks well- they seem genuinely knowledgeable about the topics you are speaking about. All of the talent have nice voices- the host needs to watch slurring his words from time to time- maybe slow down and annunciate. Good use of B-roll when the host brings up the topic- the pictures were good too. Your camera work is a bit inconsistent- just look at your shots- some are close, some are medium. Those should be consistent. Not sure why the backgrounds are the same for two, but different for the one. If you're trying to make it look like they're in different places, they should all have different backgrounds. Host looks nice, but does he have a comb in his head? He loses a bit of credibility there. Overall, it's a solid opinion piece about sports.

I get that you're trying to make your own version of PTI, but there's a fine line between borrowing ideas from something and straight up copying it. That said, you did a decent job of imitating the format. However, some technical issues exist. For starters, you camera shot framing between the 2 commentators with the red background is totally different - the one guy is on a close up that is VERY tight, almost too tight (watch your headroom). The other guy is a loose medium shot (head to waist). The shot framing should match those 2 guys. Also, why is the host shot set up using a green screen / chroma key shot? Lighting is also inconsistent; lighting is too hot for your camera settings. Also, your talent on the left has 2 hard shadows on the red curtain behind him; that looks very unprofessional. You should not see talent shadow on a background ever. How you eliminate that is 2-fold: first, don't put the talent too close to the wall/background. Second, adjust the angle and proximity of the light to your subject.

Positives: - Good example of a well thought out program with polished discussion points. You could tell that there was some rehearsal or strong pre-production work before filming started. - Loved having the b-roll footage of the sports you were talking about as part of this. That makes all the difference to the viewer instead of just talking heads on screen.

Improvements: - Work on the lighting. Especially on the host in the dark colored shirt you could see large shadows on the curtain behind him. Some repositioning of lights would help minimize or avoid that issue altogether. - Would love to see more interaction between the panelists directly to talk through their positions with one another.

Positives: Well-spoken talent all around! Engaging host and knowledgeable guests. Nice enthusiasm and energy. Great work supplementing the speaking with b-roll. Good editing. Liked the energy with the spilt screen editing. Nice graphics!

Improvements: This show has great content and engaging talent from the host and guests! Some thoughts to help raise the production value are technical. Attention to refined, softer light would help. Not sure if shadows were a stylistic choice, but may be a better look trying to remove them. Also, attention to framing of your shots. Perhaps go in tighter on subjects so we don't see their torso. If talent's audio is not being recorded overhead with a boom, it would clean up the look by hiding the lavs. It is tough with suits, but maybe try to tuck the cable beneath the tie. It looks like it was corrected on the host in the middle of the show.

Positives: What really makes this work is having each commentator separately giving their analysis. The visual of the moderator in the middle and having each commentator on either side was a nice look. The specifics of the basketball and the baseball teams and players breakdown matching up with video. The content works when you provide poignant information. Giving the rationale of how the basketball team can advance strengthens the viewpoint. Setting up the information on the new baseball coach was a good opening to that portion of the segment.

Improvements: While both analysts have good context to the subjects they both had similar views. What may help is having some contrasting thoughts. Even though you are talking about your school, there is value of giving weaknesses, as well as strengths. Example: If a player or players are poor free throw shooters it is okay to mention it. Those are facts, not opinions. These types of sports shows usually has some contrast. The music bed is a great touch, would like to have the volume down just a bit. It was a little distracting.
