  • 4/25 2:29 pm - Starts with dark, shaky shots-- odd for a DP reel. Use a tripod! Effects are distracting - this is about shooting!
  • 4/25 9:01 am - Lots of gritty, realist shots in this piece that really works. Other attempting the same style do not quite nail it in the same fashion, most because the lighting is not defined enough to give good contrast - the under-exposures make for muddy contrast and one of the shots has very soft focus (and it wasn't a rack focus shot). The focus shifts were used quite often but were executed well. Some of these shots would have benefitted from the use of a tripod. There is a fine line between handheld for realism and unwarranted shake. The reel started very strong in overall compositions and display of shooting skill. The shot quality grew overall weaker in the ladder 45 seconds. Keep practicing your craft and finding your style. You have a good eye!
