  • 4/26 7:11 am - Blend the audio better as you bounce between the interviews and live action Great start but needed more visuals to help total the story Buy at end just spoke to much break him up into pieces so I can digest what he is trying to say.
  • 4/26 1:27 am - 1. This is not an easy piece to make because an event like this one takes place during a short period of time. Consequently, you have less time to gather your interviews and shot your b-roll. I am glad you took on the challenge! 2. Your piece does give a sense of what went on during this presentation and how those in the audience responded. The viewer also is given an understanding of what the speakers were hoping to accomplish. 3. . Continue to work on blending audio from one scene to the next more smoothly. In most instances, you want to avoid abrupt shifts in the audio. 4. I wish you would have focused more on the student's reaction to the presentation. Even if you could not get any students to talk about it, you could have gotten more shots of them listening/participating.
  • 4/23 2:45 pm - I like the start with the audio, but i do not like the text on the screen. Make sure that your subject is in focus and that you do not cut off the head of the person talking on camera. Also, try to use a tripod so that you can keep camera steady. Also, try to avoid the jump cut which comes at 54 seconds, use more B-roll to avoid this. Try to use different b-roll and not just his and her speeches. I like the message of the story, i think there are more opportunities for natural sound (mic a student, or the area where the music is coming from) Always be listening for natural sounds, and think how can they help make my story stronger.
  • 4/10 2:32 pm - You have a few speeches and interviews that have great audio, but a lack of b-roll visuals to help tell the story. You need a few cutaways of the students during the speeches and some other video to put over the interviews so it isn’t just talking heads the whole time. The interviewees are looking directly at the camera but are framed in traditional interview style. Always run your mic cables under the clothing and then clip to the shirt to give it a more polished look. The lower thirds are very difficult to read due to the choice of font size and placement. You could have used the natural audio of the music to play underneath most of the video and help hide changes in location. You have some good content here, you just need more video to make it a sound piece.
  • 3/10 11:35 am - FIRST BITE - WHY IS FRAMING CUTTING INTO HER HEAD? BAD JUMP-CUT AT 0:53. AND GOING TO HIS BITE. AND OUT OF HIS BITE BACK TO B-ROLL. WHERE ARE THE TRANSITION EFFECTS? HIS BITES ARE FRAMED WITH PART OF A BANNER AND PART OF A WALL OVER SHOULDER. IF THE BACKGROUND ISN’T THAT COMPELLING OR RELEVANT, JUST CENTER HIM.

Positives: Great use of nat sound to start the piece mixed with the bold captions across the bottom so the viewer can understand the message You did a good job mixing up nats and interviews to keep the piece flowing This was a good topic. You did a good job at getting the message across from the viewpoint of the presenter

Improvements: You started so strong BUT then the video of the first interview was blurry. It really took away from how great this was out of the gate. Also have there interviewee look at you, not directly at the camera. I think you could have mixed some of the dancing video over the end of the first sot so it would not have been as abrupt of a nat pop. It was difficult to understand some of the nats of the speakers. I understand you prob didn't have a mic on those people but the sounds of students were almost overpowering. I understand this is what you had to work with so either shorter nat pops or don't use it. Watch your framing on interviews. Make sure you use a tripod so you don't cut off people's heads. We didn't hear from any students. What did they think about the messages presented?

Positives: The opening of this package grabbed me right away because we she said was bold and it was to the point. Make sure you keep that throughtout the package - You can sense their passion to want to help the youth - it was highlighted in their interviews

Improvements: - Change up your background when it comes to interviewing two different people. Pick the soundbites that are short but bold. - If you're going to do hard cuts in the interview - make sure to lay broll over it - It's distracting to the viewer if we know it's cut. Different variations of broll, wide, medium , tight shots will help you feel those gaps

Positives: Good transition breaks with sound from the pep rally to the interviews. Showing the pep rally right away establishes what the group does in different schools and sets the story.

Improvements: Have some music underneath he sound the whole time so you don't have hard cuts between interviews and broll. I would also have more broll on top of the interviews to show what they are describing. If I am hearing them talk about going to different schools and putting on a pep rally, I want to see it.
