This is a news package highlighting Glenbrook North’s new band director, Mr. Dan Briggs. I wanted to recognize and introduce to viewers what may appear to be an unfamiliar face, while also including interviews from the marching band, which is one of Briggs’s larger commitments as band director.
Positives: -Great use of nat sound off the top of the story!! And the audio was mostly smooth throughout the package. I really liked being able to hear the band playing in the background, and the level was just right for most of the package. -I LOVED the overhead shots. Great use of your video tools!! The ending shot/ music was a great way to end. -Good job mixing up interviews, there was a good variety and it helped move the story along. Also good framing on those interviews.
Improvements: -While the audio was smooth for most of the package, it kind of dropped off part way and then we didn't hear any sounds of the band. -The tuba was a great nat pop, but it was a little off-putting because the noise came up abruptly. That's where smooth audio editing comes in to play. -I know it's tough to shoot video at night, but some of the shots could have been a little brighter -This is nit-picky, but challenge yourself to get even tighter shots! It'll really take things to the next level.

Positives: I like the bites from the students explaining how Mr. Briggs is changing things. Lots of good broll.
Improvements: Feels like a lot is going on at the beginning. The quick broll shot, then the band director's on camera bite as he's sitting in the auditorium and back to broll is momentarily jarring. I think it would be smoother if you lost his first on camera bite. There is a lot of good broll, so the opening shots could be re-arranged better. (for those of us who do not know Mr. Briggs, it took a moment to determine he was not one of the students) One more thing...if possible, I think it would have been nice to see him with a musical instrument in the background instead of seeing him in the auditorium. But I realize there are often many obstacles to doing an interview in the ideal space. This might have been the quietest space.
