  • 4/25 8:48 pm - Nice piece commenting on the over indulgence of revering high school alums. The narrative was very strong and the satire was excellent. Performances from the actors were convincing and had the necessary tone. The editing was well paced and flowed well. The production value was a bit of mixed bag. It seemed like the cinematographer was fighting sharp versus soft focus throughout. Some of the characters were never quite sharply focused. The handheld shots could have been just a bit more steady. A couple of shots in the hallways looked a bit grainy due to low light. This is tough, but any additional lighting in those instances can help a ton. The other main issue was the audio mixing. The raw audio elements seemed properly recorded, but the mix was poor. The music really blew out most of the dialogue and the dialogue was often too soft. Learn to use audio compression in Final Cut to boost weak audio signals to the proper listening levels and then use gain accordingly. Overall, good work!
  • 4/21 6:21 am - Editing was very well done, especially at the beginning of the video. Good use of sounds effects and music throughout the entire production. Good performances by all of the actors. Very well done!
  • 4/12 11:56 am - Liked this a lot-- thought that you nailed the satire aspect and the Vaughan legacy at your school! Audio is good and there's some decent shot variety throughout. Actors do a good job bringing the overdone seriousness to the performance. One of my favorite submissions in the category, good job!

Positives: Idea: I think your strongest element is the idea that Vince Vaughn is the local hero who must be worshipped. It’s specific, quirky, yet somehow believable. Camera: It’s good to see you playing with shots, angles, and camera moves. I’m sure that they all work, but you’ll never get better without trying new things.

Improvements: Story: As much as I like the idea, I don’t think it’s especially well developed. It doesn’t actually make sense to me when the one guy asks, “Do you think he’ll be okay?” Same with the other guy’s response. And then where is our hero going initially? What is that locked room? We don’t know, so we don’t really care. Good idea, but flesh out the details a bit more.

Positives: Clever concept re Vince Vaughn. The performance by the student wearing the cap is particularly strong.

Improvements: Do a CU of the Vince Vaughn photo to firmly establish his celebrity status in the school. The ending could build to a bigger finale.

Positives: The beginning reminds me of a video I saw 35 years ago “Sugar or Plain”....if the people that made this were going for that, then well done.

Improvements: N/A
