  • 4/10 9:11 pm - Shot compositions were good and cinematic. The story needed to be introduced quicker. The primary issue with this trailer is that it didn't feel like a trailer so much as it did a scene from a film. There's a big difference. 90 seconds is such a small amount of time to introduce characters so an audience cares about them, introduce the conflict, build rising action and name the film. In this case, the opening sequence needed to be shortened for a trailer. The phone rang way too long and the static shots took too long. Again, in a film this would be great. In a trailer, your pace has to be faster. I found the lack of music to be strange and it was difficult to pin down what genre this trailer was supposed to be. As an audience member I wasn't sure if I was watching a black comedy or a horror/suspense film. Work on lighting your shots a bit better. This had some dark and grainy moments that needed better exposures. Moving forward, try to really study movie trailer formulas. It's a tricky exercise to do - especially if the film doesn't exist.
  • 3/4 9:39 am - Good use of the black screen in the beginning with the phone ringing to capture the viewers attention. Pacing in the beginning is good. Some of the shots are a little dark and I am confused why some of the shots are included other to add variety. Music is an interesting choice at the end and does not really work with the mood of the rest of the trailer.
  • 2/26 10:47 am - Camera: camera work is fine; decent combination of shot compositions and angles. Lighting: this area really struggled. You didn't have enough lighting for most of the shots inside. This had a huge impact on your video quality, making it grainy and noisy. Sound: the voicemail message was distorted and hard to understand. I understand the effect you were going for, but...you needed a better technique. Record a normal voice over, then add a filter in post (remove the low end of the EQ). You are also lacking in suspenseful music for the music bed. The end song makes NO sense at all with the mood you are establishing. Just a bad creative choice. Editing: editing is clean Story: the story set up is fine, but honestly it could have run longer. For a trailer to be effective, it needs to hook the audience. This did not hook me. It just ends abruptly without setting up the rest of the movie; what's going to happen? Does he just call the cops, or is there more?
