  • 4/23 12:42 pm - Audio quality is very poor- no mics were used and can't hear what is being said. Camera angles lacked at the start. You can see shoes behind the guy that is tying his shoes. Titles are a bit cheesy for this- choose carefully when making titles! "Scream" the director says- and then we hear a scream. This trailer lacks the bit of professionalism we are looking for. More thoughtful planning and execution of shots, story telling, audio and the technical side of all those needs much consideration.
  • 4/7 8:48 pm - The biggest issue with the trailer was the audio. I couldn't clearly hear anyone talking so it was difficult to pick up on the story or connect with the characters. I didn't feel connected to the protagonist. It's awesome that you put this together and the editing of the disappearing kid was cool. Now work in the skills behind everything else. Work on getting consistent, properly white balanced and exposed shots. Too often, shots were out of focus or the wrong color. Become an expert with your camera and work on shots. Regarding audio, if you don't have access to a microphone and only have the built-in microphone on the camera, then place the camera closer to the talent and make sure your room is quiet. Overall, it's clear that you have a sense for building suspense in a trailer such as this, now work on honing your skills so they match your vision more clearly. Keep working at it!
  • 3/4 9:09 am - Incorporate more camera angles/movement to build suspense in the beginning. Need to white balance and focus your camera. Audio is not great, if a boom is not available, place the camera closer and film in a quieter area. I can't hear what they are saying at 50 seconds in the classroom. I like the over the shoulder shot in the hallway. Nice editing having the student disappear.
  • 2/26 9:33 am - Camera: opening scene is entirely out of focus and not white balanced. Throughout the film, exposure changes and white balance changes inconsistently. Lighting: need more lighting in opening scene. Insufficient lighting makes your video look grainy or pixelated. Editing: pacing is off-kilter. Start off slow and build up to a faster pace. Your momentum comes to a halt at :59 when it cuts to the close up of the kid's face and the music bed stops. Sound: audio mix is not effective. People talking in beginning scene aren't effectively picked up on microphone. The music was fine but then it doesn't build up to an effective ending. Also, the dark scene where you hear a whisper say "scream" and then the person screams is horrible, and not in a good way. You need to learn to balance your audio levels. Make sure you're watching the VU meter when you're recording AND editing. Dialogue levels should be between -6 and -12 db, sound effects between -12 and -18 db, and music beds should be around -24 db. Story: not an effective set up for your storyline. If I hadn't read the entry description, I wouldn't have had any context. You need to convey all of the basic story elements in the first 20 seconds of your trailer: the who, what, when, where, why, and how.
