  • 5/10 9:11 am - Good start to the story, but try not to leave an exterior shot of the school up for 12 seconds, that is too long. Try to use more closeup shots during the package, this will help to bring the viewer into the story. because you are talking about WCIU, show something from the station so the viewer can connect with them. Get closer shots of the marching and sound of music playing for this. It would be a cool shot to see the feet of the drum majors as they walk past the camera, plus really good nat sound. Good job bringing the sound back after you mention what they played. Try to do interviews at the start of the video to give more context to the topic. When you mention "Dr. Davis" this is a perfect time to do a closeup shot of her and then one of the reporter from WCIU. Make sure that all of your shots are in focus, some of them seem slightly out of focus on this story. Try not to use a dissolve in the story because there is not a need for one. If you are getting more closeup shots, or more wide-medium-tight shots, then dissolves are not needed. When doing an interview make sure that the subject is mic'd so that we are not hearing ambient noise in the background. Again this will help guide your viewer to what you want them to hear. I wish I had heard from the guy from WCIU and Dr. Davis. I think that this would add to the story and make it even stronger. Remember that each b-roll shot should be around 3-4 seconds and have a purpose, let the track the reporter says be guided by the video. Also, at the end of the day remember that you want to fine the "heart of the story". I think you could dig even more into why they were there and stay focused on that one topic. Good job with this story, just keep working on these little details that will make the video even stronger.
