This is an excerpt from the boys' basketball Blackout game from 2-22-2019. We shot this live, ran back to our studio, cut it, exported it, uploaded it and submitted it for the MMEA video festival.

  • 4/25 8:01 pm - Very well done. Coverage was excellent as was play-by-play and color analysis. Nice coverage after the first shot was hit isolating on the shooter as he came down court. Loved the roll in on Josh Berry during the timeout as well as the use of instant replay on the jump shot before the time out occured. Well done!
  • 4/25 10:14 am - Good energy; I liked the low cutaways for hero cam-- takes away from some of the cookie cutter and patterned cuts that are everywhere. Director seems to be trying to add some of his/her own style to the coverage and I appreciate that. Graphics look pro all the way. Good stuff!
  • 4/23 7:52 am - GREAT HAVING SO MANY CAMERAS, BUT THE HERO SHOT SHOULD HAVE ONLY BEEN TAKEN FROM THE CAMERA THAT HAD THE HERO COMING AT IT, NOT THE CAMERA THAT HAD THE HERO RUNNING AWAY FROM IT. AGAIN, DOUBLE-HERO SHOTS ARE CONFUSING AND INEFFICIENT. IF YOU WANT TO TAKE TWO DIFFERENT CAMERAS AFTER A GREAT PLAY, TAKE THE FIRST FOR HERO AND THE SECOND FOR CROWD REACTION BEFORE TAKING BACK TO ACTION. NEED SEPARATE HUDDLE SHOTS. GREAT PROFILE INSERT DURING HUDDLES.
  • 3/5 10:01 am - First hero cutaway shot of this clip was quick. Some of the camera changes after the baskets were quick. Nice job with the replays. Good enthusiasm by the announcers. Good use of the statistics. Nice little in-game highlight reel for a player (#10).

Positives: Camera work for the most part was clean and smooth

Improvements: Audio mix - difficult as the crowd was loud, but the announcers were over modulated.

Judge 3

Positives: The natural sound of the crowd was tremendous. The game felt really big. Well done in capturing the importance of the game through the crowd. The element on Josh Berry was visually captivating. Very well put-together.

Improvements: The execution of the Berry package could have been more seamless. The announcers were talking about two other players during the timeout and the package just appeared. It wasn't cohesively integrated. The best directors I've worked with are truly superb listeners who make cuts in order to further a story. While the announcers were talking about the two LT players during the timeout, it would have been ideal to try to find those players in the huddle. In addition, the hero shot at the 31-second mark seemed out of place.
