  • 4/23 12:39 pm - Acting was sub-par in this trailer- from the voice over to the boy getting hit by a car. Needs to be more realistic and believeable. The biggest issue is the story itself. I see that the character has something to do, but not sure what the story is really about. I need to know that. That doesn't mean you have to give everything away, but I need to know what I am going to see. You had some interesting camera angles which was nice, but as stated earlier, we need more.
  • 4/10 8:54 pm - The camera had some cinematic movement and some of the shots were interesting. But the big issue here is a lack of storytelling. A movie trailer needs to do 4 things. It needs to introduce the audience to the primary characters in a way that makes the audience care. The conflict needs to be clearly defined, rising action needs to build and the trailer should end with a title and tagline. None of those things, save from the title were made very clear. The music was interesting, but the editing should have been adjusted so that it cut with the hits and the peaks. Dialogue levels seemed a bit hot, bordering on peaking in places. The music was also much too loud in places. Overall, the piece had a few interesting moments but without story development, it did not do enough to hook the audience.
  • 3/4 9:30 am - Good pacing and camera angles, camera movement, color quality. I like the over the shoulder shot and natural sound of the grass crunching. Acting was a little stiff (to be expected if you are using video students). Not sure I understand the story, characters plot direction etc.
  • 2/26 10:13 am - Camera: choice of shooting in 720 60 fps made the trailer feel like a video news package. Lighting: I don't know if you even used any additional lighting. Looked like mostly just natural lighting or available lighting on location. Nothing really striking in terms of impacting mood or creating a cinematic feeling. Sound: Audio levels weren't mixed appropriately; music bed was too loud in many parts. Make sure you're watching the VU meter when you're recording AND editing. Dialogue levels should be between -6 and -12 db, sound effects between -12 and -18 db, and music beds should be around -24 db. Editing: The editing was fine, but it didn't have a positive impact on creating tension. No apparent link to the music bed. Story: this is the big area. Without a clear story, your trailer falls apart. The trailer is meant to hook an audience, to entice them to want to watch the full movie. There were no clear characters, nor was there a clear sense of the plot. Who were the characters? Who was the antagonist and WHY was he doing whatever it is that he was doing? What's the central conflict?
