Compilation of Nick Morgan's best shots over the 2018-19 year. Made by Henry Withrow on Ignite software
Positives: You have a lot of great shots here that show a good eye for frame composition and good use of available light. Your color grading overall has a good cinematic look to it and enhances the "professional" look of the footage
Improvements: I would have liked to see a bit more use of controlled lighting. Although there is a lot of available lighting used, there aren't many shots that demonstrate your use of controlled lighting. You really seem to love the slow down and speed up editing in your reel but I feel it gets a bit tiresome and repetitive by the end. It feels more like a flashy gimmick than anything that really makes an impact in your reel. Also the one dark shot at :14 should be taken out, it just looks dark and doesn't really seem to show off any good lighting or camera technique
Positives: reat use slow motion and coming in and out of that effect to create a deeper tone in the story. Great lens flares throughout and all of your night shots are exposed perfectly. Love the colored lights in the car scene. I also like that you have a mix of both documentary-style and more narrative filmmaking in this particular submission.
Improvements: A few things to improve on would be to make sure you watch your shutter speed or angle, depending on what type of camera you're using, when you're shooting. At times a few of the shots seem like you have a fast shutter speed which makes for a chop your look. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but often young filmmakers do this as a way to adjust exposure when they're outside. That's the incorrect way to do it. Instead make sure you use in neutral density filter. Also continue to work on lighting that you create. A few of those scenes in the basketball court were dark and could have used some reflectors or simple LED lighting.
Positives: Nice variety of shots. I liked the way you used slow motion in some of the shots. It doesn't look like you shot it at a normal speed and did it the right way by shooting at a faster speed so you got a smoother slow motion.
Improvements: I would work a little more on rotoscoping the letters in the beginning. Rotoscoping is a long and boring process but if done right it can really add to your video. I would have liked to have seen more smooth camera motion or movement.
