  • 4/23 8:36 pm - I like that you chose a unique topic to your community to highlight. I second the comments below and do not want to be redundant. Frame your shots better and shoot more b-roll. If you can't shoot with a tripod, hold your shot for at least three seconds before moving to pan. If you are an underclassman, keep making pieces. If you are a senior, I wish you the best in your future and congratulations!
  • 3/16 8:29 pm - I thought you did a nice job of setting up the story, I was hoping the B-roll would have been more descript. Close ups of the signs or t-shirts to drive the point home, a lot (not all) of your b-roll were these wide generic shots. Decide want you want your audience to see in the b-roll and what it is you want to communicate with it, and zoom it in, force your audience to see what you want them to see, because when the shot is to wide I am not sure what I should be focusing on, or I just focus on the wrong things because there is a lot to take in. Also work at making sure you are getting the best b-roll you can try and put yourself in a position to get a good shot. I know it is not always possible, but I felt like some (definitely not all) of your broll was shot from the side or even sometimes the back (examples at 9, 15, 38, 57, 1:01, 1:04, 1:34), . Be aggressive (not rude) to get the shot that will help tell the story you want to tell. I thought you did a nice job of gathering a variety of interviews that helped tell the story from a variety of perspectives which gave me a more well-rounded view of the event. I loved at the end you gave your audience something to do rather than just sit passively and watch. I am always a fan of giving your audience a “so what” and you did just that.

Positives: - You did a good job of putting this story together. The natural sound usage is solid, and I think you did a nice job of capturing the feeling behind the event. - I love that you didn't just cut yourself off with two interviews. Great job in getting different voices into the piece to tell the whole story.

Improvements: - Your shot composition could be better. You caught some great moments, but really, shot composition will make this story flow even better. Start with wide shots, move to medium and then to tight. You didn't have many tight shots -- which could've helped avoid some jump cuts. - The use of music wasn't necessary here. Replacing that with a few more spots of natural sound, and letting your interviews provide the emotion, is really the way to go.

Positives: Good variety of interviews showing all aspects of the event Lots of good broll

Improvements: The really low music in the background is very distracting. Not sure why that was on there. There seems like there would be plenty of natural sound yet I can't hear it. Tighten up your writing. You can lead into a sound bite without telling me exactly what the person will say. The first woman for example. After you said their biggest fundraiser walk of hope, then cut right to sot of her explaining why out there and this funds programs. Let the people talk and this will help trim the length of your stories. This needed more nats! You had one good pop with the cancer survivor countdown

Positives: -Well written, great narration delivery -I liked how the story was personalized with Verna. It showed character and allows the viewer to connect with the story on a more personal level.

Improvements: -Try to use more natural sound to tell the story. Use the sound of people cheering or feet running to transition in between shots... especially during the opening shot -Try to use more sequences when shooting video. Pick a spot, shoot it in three different ways (establishing, medium and close-up)
