- 3/1 8:23 am - Nice opener. You crossed the line at :08. By :20 we've seen two shots of b-roll and they're both from the same angle, same framing. Paused at :33, third b-roll shot, still the same angle. The story is only 1:51 TRT, yet at :33 in we've only seen 3 b-roll shots and they're all from same angle. Paused at :57, only two different b-roll angles at this point and they're both ultra-wide framing. The majority of the piece was shot at the Peoria Civic Center; then at 1:40 we cut to shot of an apparent high school band room, and the main subject is walking away from the camera. This needs audio set-up and a transition to get from Peoria to South Elgin. No shot variety at all throughout. Steady interview shots, good audio on it; steady b-roll shots.
- 2/24 12:47 pm - David's interview segments were framed and lit nicely, and his audio was clear and well-mixed. The b-roll was rather lacking; you pretty much had wide shots from one event. Some suggestions would be a greater variety of shots from the performances (single shots, group shots, pans, etc.) and a lot more abstract shots (close ups of instruments, sheet music, rack focus from someone in the foreground to someone in the background, etc.)
