This is an excerpt of the 2020 Glenbrook North Variety Show, “Vision”. Our Variety Show Broadcast Crew consists of an eight camera shoot (including two wireless on-stage cameras), a live and coordinating director, along with a technical director, video playback operator, and audio engineer. Our Broadcast Crew attended a week of rehearsals to prepare for the three show days.
Positives: Good audio mix! Live music is tough and you did a great job. Well directed piece, good camera locations.
Improvements: Would have been nice to have dancers in more light across the entire stage. Some dissolved shots were a bit too similar.
Positives: I liked your fades from one camera to another and the tempo of transitions matched the mood of the music. Nice variety of shots.
Improvements: I would suggest that when you transition from one shot to another that you make sure you are not going from a medium shot to another medium shot. You want to vary your shots so that you are cutting from a medium shot to a tight or wide shot. On your opening shot I would have started on a wide shot and just before the singer begins do a nice fade to a medium or tight shot just on him.
Positives: Excellent shot composition. Loved the shot of the singers in the foreground and dancers in the background and the panning shot as dancers were picking up flowers. Great pacing with the dissolves. Good sound mix.
Improvements: Needed more establishing wide shots, especially early on. Dancers started to appear out of nowhere. Needed more tight close-ups, especially since it would've been easy with the signers standing still.
