This is an excerpt of the 2020 Glenbrook North Variety Show, “Vision”. Our Variety Show Broadcast Crew consists of an eight camera shoot (including two wireless on-stage cameras), a live and coordinating director, along with a technical director, video playback operator, and audio engineer. Our Broadcast Crew attended a week of rehearsals to prepare for the three show days.
Positives: Well lit for performance and camera. Liked the effects on stage and many good camera composition shots.
Improvements: Some camera shots similar in composition but from opposite side of performance were a bit disconcerting. Good attempt to cut with music but sometimes it seemed overdone.
Positives: The pace of the transitions was good, it kept me interested and engaged. Your opening and ending fades were a nice touch to a great performance. The slider shot at the front was done nicely.
Improvements: Adding a little more movement to the cameras, such as pushes and pulls would have been nice. Picking more creative shots could have added to your video. Maybe taking a tight shot of their feet while they are dancing or a tighter shot of any of them. You stayed wide pretty much the whole time and it is okay to get in tight on just one from time to time.
Positives: Loved the first shot with the silhouettes and great second shot after that. Great mid-shots that caught lots of action.
Improvements: More cuts needed to match the fast pacing of the music. Needed some close-ups of the dancers' faces. Overall, played it too safe.
