This is a Music Video for an original piece of music by Aalap Shah, the individual featured in the video. The video's intent was to display an intriguing variety of shots and editing techniques to draw in the viewer. The video is portrayed as filmed on film to further diversify the look of the video. As a product of these efforts, I believe the video helps in furthering the art of the song itself.
It is an original piece of music.
Positives: The performer is committed. The editing moves the story forward.
Improvements: The subject is can be more clearly lit at the beginning. Video needs to be lighter overall. There are framing issues as well. The music can be less repetitive. Synchronization needs to be tighter.
Positives: The vintage color correction hid cinematography issues nicely. Good locations and backgrounds.
Improvements: Could have used B-roll besides A-roll performance. Lip-synch could have been tighter.
Positives: I liked the visual tricks for the most part. A little too much fake film scratch but I loved the white animations that played on top of the main video. Would have liked to have seen a lot more of those little animations! Shallow depth of field was used effectively as were some editing tricks that made the whole video more enjoyable and not take itself too seriously.
Improvements: Visually, this video was very effective. However, there was no real story to latch onto. Once we're halfway through the video, there's nothing new to see. It could have used a surprise twist or an overarching theme that revealed itself more and more. Also could have benefitted greatly from having more people on screen. Your subject was engaging but not engaging enough to keep full interest for the whole song. Backup dancers maybe? A guy driving him around in a truck? A pack of wild dogs? This video was too good visually to be so thin in the story. Great potential though! Keep at it!
