Entry Description

As Crossover Sports we talk about all sports from our HS to the pros and college. In our show we are submitting to MMEA, we talk about the Super Bowl, and our own segment called Hot Take during all weekend in the NBA. In Hot Take we make bold predictions and will be on mostly all shows we make.

  • 4/23 11:35 am - Great job taking the time to make it look like a professional sports program set! There is excellent chemistry between the different anchors when talking off-script. The directing is spot on. Appropriate cuts between the anchors, video playback and graphics. One of the elements that are missing from the show is background music or natural sound from the video clips. This would help with the tone of the show and transitioning from the different topics that are discussed. Overall, great job!
  • 3/17 10:15 am - Very cool graphics at the beginning- maybe too short as cool as they were. Anchors looked professional in their dress. Set was nice- open computers a very modern look. Audio was good- could hear the speakers at an appropriate level. Maybe the speakers could have a little more enthusiasm for the topics- voices were very monotone at times, and inflection in the voices would help with appeal. Stats are always big in sports- give us actual statistics, and then add graphics that would help us see those stats. Music at times might add some excitement- perhaps each time you go to video a little music in the background would help. It was a good show- now just jazz it up with some little extras.
  • 2/26 9:53 am - Are the intro graphics created by students? Professional studio set up and audio. The students look professional dressed up and have an organized well thought out discussion. Good use of game footage. Students were sometimes monotone and the program could use a little more energy. Maybe some additional graphics and stats would help. Overall, nice job.

Positives: The talent were all exceptionally well prepared. Clearly knew the subject matter and were passionate about it. Made for an informative and enjoyable watch. The host did a nice job of moving things along in the discussion while also inserting his opinions at the appropriate time.

Improvements: The lighting/iris on the main camera (3-shot) seemed to be brighter than the other shots. Try to match these as best you can to show consistency as you cut between angles. If possible, your discussions would benefit from some graphics to help illustrate some of the points that you're making. Put players' stat lines on the screen in visual form so that viewers don't have to absorb all of the stats from just you speaking them.

Positives: - The overall look of everything from set to the talent was great! It felt very professional and helped make it easy to watch because it has the look of a studio set. - Talent all was very knowledgeable and I liked seeing them interact with each other. Very comfortable and great potential future on air personalities.

Improvements: - Use of graphics - This is a bit nit-picky, but graphics are an important part of a sports program. I see they have some great templates. Big thing is fading lower thirds out and not just having them cut away. Looks jumpy, but a good way to pull a graphic out of screen, I duplicate the graphic in reverse right after so the lower third exits the same way it enters the screen. - I liked the use of highlights and the color commentating, but there were moments when we wouldn't see a highlight for a while. Somewhere around 5 minutes it felt like it was just a lot of just the talent, and maybe graphics or more highlights could help bring up the energy of the show.

Positives: Obviously these guys know their sports. Nice discussion on the Super Bowl and NBA. Professional overall look with the set, talent, and video highlights used throughout the discussion.

Improvements: I know I'm only seeing an excerpt, but I would have like to see more focus on local sports, especially within the high school. Anyone can get the pro stuff on ESPN. Overall look could have used a little more creativity. Something different to make it stand out.
