I honestly believe that this was in the wrong category. This needs a lot of b-roll and a lot of clean up editing out all the 'uhms' and 'ands' in this piece. If you are an underclassman, keep making pieces. If you are a senior, I wish you the best in your future and congratulations!
  • 3/16 8:18 pm - First off, I understand this is a news package piece but it really came across more as a live production than a news story. I get that the interview may have been filmed in the studio and then the B-Roll added in during post production, but it just has that look of a live production, especially since you never cut to any other speakers/interviews. I guess the other reason I felt that way is I felt like the B-roll was more generic (like you see on a live broadcast) talk show as opposed to more intentional to fit with what is being talked about. To me the B-Roll is that visual reference of what was talked about. So, when you are talking about how Anne Frank character channeled her sister to be more stubborn, show me that footage so I am more likely to remember the point that you were trying to make(you showed footage of her politely laughing 1:38 when talking about the character being stubborn). At times it fit, but again the intentionality is what will help your audience remember what is being spoken – the two should go together. Near the end the audio appeared to be out of sync, and easily correctible fix, just double check your work before you send it on. I know it seems silly but at times I would look at the host and say you need to sit up straight, I get that this is not a technical thing, but the producer should notice details that might detract from the story, and correct them before they get embedded with the message. The lighting was good in the studio and had a professional look about it The B-Roll seemed very one dimensional as if it was all shot from the audience’s point of view, move your camera around to give your audience a different perspective, it will keep the story looking fresh as it moves on and keep your audience what might be coming next. Be more creative with your camera
