  • 4/23 11:54 am - The anchors did a fantastic job pacing the program. They are very professional and easy to understand throughout. The several packages that are played throughout the program have major audio issues. Some are too low, and some are too high. The audio levels are really all over the place which definitely takes away from this otherwise fantastic piece. Also, consider graphics, background music or more natural audio during the different recap clips to help carry the program.
  • 3/17 11:21 am - Cool opening set to music with lots of sports footage. Anchors need to work together more on timing- we see it right at the beginning on the first story- the girl anchor has an awkward pause before she begins talking. That needs practice. Audio on interview is very low. Perhaps add some side graphics on your anchors so that the anchor is not sitting dead center in the shot. Mics seemed to be turned off and then turned back on. Can hear your anchors talking during a podcast segment! Can't have that! Anchors could be more practiced. Lots of small stutters in the reading. Cheerleading audio is WAY over modulated and sounds very distorted. That has got to be resolved, as the interviews themselves sound better than the voice over. At 6:38 the camera goes back to the wrong person. Started a segment too early for the cheer team and could hear it in the background. Cheer segment girl did a nice job talking. Anchors- boys mic much louder and clear than the girls. Awkward pause after weather report. Could use a true closing to the show- credits, something to put an end to it. The show has lots of good ideas, but technically it struggles. Work on the tech end to make it more professional.
  • 2/26 10:40 am - Good intro and use of music. Nice variety of sports. Nice energy by the anchors but some awkward pauses and deep breaths that are noticeable to the viewer. Some audio issues during the XC interview, pod cast, and cheerleading segments. You can hear the anchors talking during the podcast segment "Next is an intro package."

Positives: Loved the fact that you had video highlights of nearly every team that you talked about - and supplemented with photos where needed. Makes the show so much more engaging to be able to see what you're talking about! Really liked the enthusiasm of all of the talent - both the on-set anchors and the reporters all seemed to be enjoying what they do.

Improvements: Watch your audio all around - the voicetrack in the package about cheerleading was overmodulated; the anchors' mics were left open at one point and we caught them talking to one another; and the challenge segment started to roll early and we heard it start. The package on cheerleaders would have been a great spot to use some NATS sound pops to add to the package as well. If possible, use graphics during your team roundup to help drive home the point. The anchors read a lot of records/stats/numbers in short order and it's hard to catch all of it. A lower third over the soccer highlights to mention their next game or their season record would help the viewers.

Positives: - I love their sets and studio. Gives off a very professional and modern feel. Specifically, the podcast guys were in a cool space completely different than the anchor desk and that gives the appearance to the viewer that the station has a lot of coverage and options for live hits. This also visually changes it up for the viewers to keep them interested. - Big fan of Challenge Celia segment. Things like that give a lot of character to your show and can create fun dialogs between the anchors. It also brings in repeat viewers to see what the latest challenge is. Excellent idea!

Improvements: - There were multiple technical errors on the control room side. For example, there were moments when the camera taken to was on the wrong anchor or the anchor was reading and looking at the wrong camera. Floor directors and tally lights can often help the talent know where to look. Also a program monitor. Audio was up and down throughout the show. Specifically going into segments and within the packages. These are things that can usually be fixed in post production and before actual live taping, but I know there are extenuating circumstances for everyone. Getting an idea of the audio levels and maybe even marking off with tape on the audio board where adjustments need to be made could help in the live-to-tape recording. - The talent had great energy and looked comfortable to be on camera, they just fell victim to a sing-songy rhythmic flow to their reading. It is very easy to do when we are trying to do what I call our "news voice." When I came up in anchoring, the best way to beat sounding repetitive with my tones was to spend time reading into a mirror and recording myself. I would underline certain words I thought deserved more emphasis, read it out and recorded to listen and see if it sounded right. This is a great exercise for on air talent and these two are already very comfortable on air, so it would be great to see that small adjustment.

Positives: Great coverage of high school sports. So many different events covered! Great personaility from the two hosts. They really seemed to be enjoying what they are doing which makes it more interesting to watch.

Improvements: Audio for part of the package was overmodulatedd and distorted. Video of the sports highlights could be improved. Very shakey in spots. Try using a tripod when possible.
