Coverage of Waubonsie Valley football vs. Naperville North
Positives: The analyst was knowledgeable about the situations presented. Good find by the director of the celebration on the sideline.
Improvements: I'd like to hear the name of the running back on the first play, especially if you say "to the running back." In that case, we really should have the name. I hear someone fiddling with a microphone.
Positives: Good play by play description on the fumble recovery and the touchdown. Nice energy and pace during the action.
Improvements: Too much dead air between plays. Need to be more aware of the action on the field, this had overlap of broadcasting on plays. Try to get more in sync to make it a smoother.cohesive sound.
Positives: The camera color balancing was good. Some shakiness of the cameras but other than that the camera operators did a good job at following the action and providing color filler shots like the players at the sideline, cheerleaders, and the running of the Waubonsie flags. Although the replay failed, I like the animation wipes and the attempt was made at a perfect time for where a replay could be shown.
Improvements: If you listen carefully especially right away at the beginning, I can hear the director. Ways to fix this is by moving the announcers farther away from the control room, or simply mask the audio by adding more natural sounds of the game like crowd and field sounds. You can achieve this by placing a mic out the window facing the crowd or putting a mic in the handheld camera to get field sounds. If an announcer needs to take their headset off be sure to mute their mic if they have no control over it. I know it happened only once but remind the announcers not to talk over each other. The score-strip graphic at the lower-third of the screen could be tightened up a bit. There is a lot of empty space between the team names and the points scored. by tightening up the score-strip it would reduce the screen footprint allowing there to be more visual space of the game. The score-strip graphic seems to be tied to the game camera and is cut off screen when transitioned to another camera. Not necessarily an issue, but it is untraditional to the format of major sport TV networks as where they leave the score-strip in during the entire game play and only remove it to go to replays, breaks, supplemental /promo graphics, etc. Overall, good job!
