  • 4/23 12:05 pm - There is some excellent use of game footage and pictures that helps to tell his story. I wish the cameras had operators during the interview! The static wide shot works well, but there are times that I think close ups would be more appropriate than going back to the same medium shot. When using multiple cameras, do your best to color match on location and try to get them even closer in post. The white balance jumps significantly from shot to shot. Also, try and tape your mic cables down the legs of the chair so they aren't so distracting. Overall this is a well executed interview, but I don't know that it really works as an anchor-based sports program.
  • 3/17 11:07 am - No opening to the show? No welcome from the host? The segment goes straight into the first question and that's what we see for the rest of the show. It's an interesting interview and the subject is very cool. Audio sounds good, b-roll looks nice. Added camera angles of the interview would be welcomed. Get close ups. Much of the talk seems edited in- you can hear talk in the background when the guest is speaking, but the mic seems to be turned off. The host is saying "yeah yeah yeah" but he's turned off. Keep the mics on for conversational purposes. No real closing. It's a good interview with some audio issues in the background, but it's just that- an interview. Category called for a show and this seems more like a segment that would be included in a larger show.

Positives: Host was well prepared and did a good job with the questioning. Like the idea of asking him about the current Barrington team, even if the answer didn't pan out probably as you hoped. Good job finding b-roll and photos to cover - without that a long interview piece can get very dry very quickly.

Improvements: Watch the white balance, color and focus on the cameras - they didn't match, which makes for a jarring cut when you go straight from one camera to another. I'm assuming that this interview was aired as part of a larger show, but the interviewer never actually says the player's name during this piece. Without the lower third from the Tampa Bay b-roll, I would not have known who we were talking to/about.

Positives: - The interviewer was very sharp and comfortable at navigating the conversation. great subject to interview and he asked questions that triggered solid answers from Scotty. - Awesome flashes back to footage of Scotty playing ball in high school and college. Those moments are fun to see!

Improvements: - The camera that took the closeup of the talent was out of focus. I would make sure it is sharpened and record a test of it to verify ahead of time on the chance that he was filming the whole set up himself. Kudos if so! MMJ in the making! Also tuck the lavalier cables on the wide shot so you don't see them dangling on the chairs. - I really liked the footage of Scotty from high school. More clips like that intertwined and maybe comparisons to show his growth would be fun to see!

Positives: Nice interview, good questions. Really liked him talking about who he admired when he was in high school and advice he'd give to high school kids. Good use of all the b-roll to cover the interview, especially going back to his high school days.

Improvements: I like the multiple camera shots used for the interview, but because Scotty Miller was leaning down in his chair, the shot should have been adjusted a bit to fix the framing. For variety instead of the whole interview done seated, it could have been mixed with some shots walking on the football field or the lockeroom.
