I think you could have benefit from using a lav/pin mic or taken your subject outside of the pool area. The pool area is a challenging area to shoot it due to echo and noise traveling so even if there weren't a lot of people in the background it still sounds like a busy space. If you are an underclassman, keep making pieces. If you are a senior, I wish you the best in your future and congratulations!
  • 3/16 8:21 pm - Your video started and ended a little quick with speaking the moment it begins and ends. I sometimes suggest to my students to get your audience’s attention before you jump into the content, even if it is just a quick scene, if the talking starts right away, they might miss something key. At the end I don’t like where the reporter goes right to the last second, because then that is rolled into the anchors who will start talking right away and then your audience never really gets a chance to have their own thoughts, throw a scene or two in at the end that encompasses the story and let your audience have that moment. I don’t have much to say about your story, I thought it was well put together. The B-roll fit, and I liked how your video flowed between interviews, I never felt like I was on any one person to long, you edited it well. Shooting B-Roll in a pool can be a little challenging, because there is only so much you can do, there were times the Broll started feeling repetitive, I think you even reused one angle a second time, but overall, I didn’t think it was too bad. The narrator mic was nowhere as rich as the rest of the piece. I would never ding you for that because I know some schools (including mine) sometimes just don’t have access to equipment at all times for all students, but I felt like I should still mention the difference between the narrator and the interviews is noticeable. You did a good job, on a story that doesn’t give you the opportunity for a lot of pizzazz.
