4/23 8:40 pm - I like that you chose a unique topic to your community to highlight. I second the comments below and do not want to be redundant. This was one of my favorite pieces. Here is a way you can improve. Bring and use a light. There are some shots that are dark and you want it to communicate a warm fun event. I think the light would bring it a soft quality. Pull your subjects away from the wall to give them some dimension. The shot is very flat and just a step forward could really improve it. Watch how large your font is. We don't want people to be overwhelmed by that on the screen. I'm excited to see if you and the club can make this a schoolwide event. Otherwise, I really enjoyed this piece. If you are an underclassman, keep making pieces. If you are a senior, I wish you the best in your future and congratulations!
3/16 8:29 pm - I didn’t get that this was just a class thing at first, I thought it was schoolwide. I heard it the second time through (which explains why the footage wasn’t as diverse as I was expecting)
Your first interviews while they communicated what you wanted, didn’t deliver it in a confident, clear way. Don’t be afraid to coach your talent and record their answer a second time. When they give you their first answer, tell them what you liked about it, and maybe what you would recommend to make it even better, the second time around it is usually better (if for no other reason because they have already practiced it once).
Watch your editing, you let some scenes run longer than they should have, tighten it up so it moves along I saw this at 40 seconds, and then again, a little bit at 1:07.
You have a tendency with your interviews to hear everything they say and then show it. Don’t be afraid to put related b-roll over the interview once you have established the character. Your audience will appreciate it because it will drive home what they are saying (assuming the b roll is related) and it will move the story along faster rather than first saying it, and then showing it.
