What lost me were the jump cuts. Cover them with b-roll. I know that this is a modern way of showing pieces or may be acceptable, but you have a lot of material to cover a statement. I enjoyed the photos dropping matching the beats. If you are an underclassman, keep making these pieces. I graduated from Elgin High School and am always interested in seeing how South Elgin's program is going. If you are a senior, best wishes and congratulations!
  • 3/16 8:12 pm - I think your introduction was done well, and the voice of the narrator was dynamic and easy to listen to. Watch your sound levels, some people were louder than others. Excellent graphics throughout your piece it really gave it a polished and professional look. I felt like your B-roll really fit with what you were talking about. It was intentional, and it was artistic between the composition and movement. Nice job Story had a logical flow (content and transitions), I think it should do well, I enjoyed it and except for the sound levels I really don’t have anything else major that I would suggest changing if you were my student. (maybe the line about the talk of the state, because I had never heard of them) :). Great job

Positives: - The editing here is awesome! I love how you used the video off the start to set the stage. The sound effects with the photos were well done too. That was really advanced! - You did a great job of putting this together in regard to flow. The soundbites were great. You had just the right amount of track. This was cool!

Improvements: - I was hoping for more b-roll of the guys practicing with the team, and with that, more natural sound. I'm not sure if that was available to you or not. But it would've been great to see them in action up close, maybe some natural sound of them talking with teammates, etc. - The music is definitely a pump-up, but I don't think you needed it here. Try to utilize music on the more emotional pieces. This was uplifting -- but not in need of the music.

Positives: The video of them winning with all the photos was a cool way to get more pics and video into the piece good job matching broll with track

Improvements: Always have broll covering your track. Example: 15 seconds in you are showing some blank background You don't have to off center your interviews if the background is distracting or adds nothing. The interview with TJ, I was focused on the people walking down the hall The background music is really distracting. Why didn't you use the nat sound of the team? I could see them cheering but didn't hear them cheering

Positives: -Great use of video and sound to tell the story. Loved hearing the reporter say "this is video of what students " to start off the story. It shows the reporter is writing to the video and that is key in visual storytelling. -Excellent use of photo effects to capture the attention of the viewer.

Improvements: -Try to use more natural sound (students cheering in gym, cherleader's chanting) it helps drive the piece. -I would've liked to see video of Tristan and TJ doing some tumbling, doing more stunts for the cheerleading team
