  • 3/9 9:36 am - Balance lighting a little more on two anchors. One is lit well and the other is in a shadow. Same with audio. Anchor on left has a more balance sound, like it is coming from a lav and the anchor on the right seems distant with a little reverb and the low end dropped out. Good energy from anchors. When you cut or transition from the 2 to the 1 shot make sure audio doesn't get clipped off or edit isn't too tight. Nice use of dynamic video in OTSs. Cancer walk segment has some nice elements. Good audio, broll, interviews. One suggestion is try to have consistency and continuity over all graphic elements...LTs, OTS, etc. The LT in the volleyball PKG would be great for the entire show. All anchors have great energy. There is a fine line between reading from a teleprompter and over accentuating with verbal hits and hand gestures. Work toward finding that line that is natural. I'm also a fan of professional dress. Anyone on air should be professionally dressed or maybe try to find a a style wear everyone can meet and be consistent in their dress. Pull the sports anchor away from the back wall a bit and throw a wash back there to eliminate that shadow. Weather anchor, when you leave shot and come back in, you have a space where you can stand so as to not block important info for your audience. Find that spot.
  • 2/24 12:36 pm - Pros: Nice push in to start. I like the look of the over the shoulders with the video. You go Joe Sullivan, I would pay to watch this guy go. Cancer walk story is solid. I commend the reporter for matching the video and using nat sound in the piece. Cons: Lighting on the set looks unbalanced. Girl on the left seems well lit, girl on the right seems in a shadow. Maybe go full screen with videos and not only in OTS. Volleyball story feels light on any nats audio. Stories are a little long.

Positives: Hidden Gems package well done Good work by anchors coming out of the Hidden Gems package

Improvements: Could have used more video full in opening stories Could have used nat sound in the Coach Crews package

Judge 2

Positives: Like the headlines at the top of the show. Headlines grab the viewers attention and make them want to watch. Nice news open! Really like teasing to sports to help viewers stay tuned. Great personality between the two anchors. They bounce off of each other really well. Stories are short and sweet. Easy for the viewer to listen. Nice ad lib from the anchors to talk about the runnings coming by the school The personality from the meteorologist is fantastic! He kept me interested the entire time and I wanted to hear more about the weather.

Improvements: The lighting on the two anchors are different. The anchor on the left is lit really bright, and the other anchor has shadows on her face. Be careful with lighting! The reporter dated the walk story by instantly saying the date at the beginning. Always think about how you can forward the story. With the second package, be careful in not to date the story again. The reporter talked past tense throughout the story. Think of how you can forward a story and make the viewer interested. Behind the sports anchor there is a shadow on the wall. Maybe add a key light to stop that from happening. Why behind the interview of the volleyball coach is the background black? That looks strange. Interview him in the gym. Interview the players in the classroom, hall or the gym. The black background is distracting for the viewer.

Positives: good job editing/using nats on packages Like that you had a mix of school/community features

Improvements: minor - but you need a little more head room on the shots with the video box. On some of them you're cutting off the anchors head. During the cancer walk there was an interview with a woman and you could see the mic cord. If they can't put it down their shirt, consider draping the cord over their back. it just looks cleaner
