An original music video tribute to The Cars song, "My best friends girl" Inspired by music videos of the 80's. Ric is in love with his best friend's girl and he doesn't know how to feel about it.
Positives: Editing is solid and storytelling is clear.
Improvements: The framing at the beginning can be cleaner. The handheld work needs to be a bit steadier.
Positives: Loved the choreography. Terrific performances.
Improvements: Some of the camera work could have been better stabilized. Not a huge fan of showing the lighting instruments in the party scene.
Positives: Well, I was a bit thrown at how cheesy the video seemed at first but that quickly became the number one thing that I loved about it. It was fun! It didn't have to be anything else. The characters were effective storytellers and were cast perfectly. A fun romp through an altogether familiar high school dilemma. And you had choreography. ALWAYS a plus.
Improvements: The pacing (editing) was all over the place. The faster it was cutting, the better. Once we got to the backyard show, the shots got longer and took my away my suspension of disbelief a little. Also, I would have loved to have had a story twist somewhere. Either she winks at him at the very end, or you show a shot of him with her from the past.. just something to throw the story into unknown territory. Because... as good as the story was, there wasn't much substance to it. But maybe there didn't need to be? Maybe we just need more choreography in our lives!! Either way, great job!
