  • 3/9 10:09 pm - Your front of show tease features two sports stories. New principal story would have worked as a tease to mix it up a bit. Nice intro that represents your student life well. Nice start from anchor. Anchor mentions a "Hayley" introducing us to a Wildcat...maybe consider using first and last names. Nice location change for anchor leading into swimming piece. Nice B-roll in this piece with the underwater footage. Consider attributing all footage acquired outside of the program. I like the start of the golf segment. Audio a little low in this piece. Beautiful green, sunny shots. The football quarterback piece comes across a little flat because the QB is reading his VO. I would prefer to hear him from "the heart." Why did this piece have a title slide at the end of the PKG for the producers but the other segments didn't? Again, some really interesting footage acquired for this piece.
  • 3/8 8:06 pm - Positive: Anchor and reporters were professional. B-roll on the news package was creative and added to the element of storytelling. Cons: Audio on some voice overs were distorted. Not seeing the anchor in the beginning of the story and having her pop up at the end was a bit confusing.
  • 2/24 1:29 pm - Pros: As always, a very professional newscast. Very strong open that shows off your school. I like how you shoot your opening anchoring in front of the school. Interview for the first story is framed well. I do like the variety of b-roll and how you went out of your way to get tons if it. Second story, I like the start of this story. This is kind of an amazing story and feel lucky that you did it. Video for the golf story is good. Recommend doing the interviews there. Cons: The opening piece audio seems a little hollow. The story also opens with a long nats, maybe that could've been cut down a bit. The b-roll in this piece could've been shot on a tripod especially for some of the stationary shots. We hear a lot from the focus, but not much from anyone else. Second story, maybe film at the pool or somewhere in her setting. Be careful to make the transition to each story with a little more flow. Seems like maybe you do the interviews at the golf course?

Positives: Good package on the principal Good underwater footage for Team USA swim package Well edited packages

Improvements: Background for the anchor should have been different.

Judge 2

Positives: The welcome from the anchor was short, sweet and to the point. Good into into the package. I think the nat sound at the beginning of the first package is fantastic! Great writing from the intro into the package with the nat sound. Great video of the swimmer in the water! Each reporter throughout the newscast does a great job with adding nat sound. The golf story has great b-roll

Improvements: During the headlines, you only discussed sports stories. Are there not any news-worthy news stories? Just throw one in there. Watch how long the nat sound is at the beginning of the first package. Keep it short. Be careful with the b-roll in the package about the principal. Don't be afraid to zoom in on his name tag, or get him typing at his computer. This is the type of package you need to be creative about the video you shoot. I find the shot where you're on his shirt for awhile a tad bit weird. Try to not shoot your interviews with a black background. Try to interview her with the pool in the background. With just the black, it looks strange and weird. The reporter who voiced the golf story, his voice sounds hollow. Make sure you're recording somewhere that doesn't make you sound hollow. Watch audio throughout the football package. It was really soft compared to the rest of the newscast. The football player talks way too long. Always try to keep SOT's to 10-12 seconds.

Positives: Great job editing packages and using nat sound Loved that your newscast featured so many students

Improvements: Hard for me to find ways for you to improve. This was by far the best newscast I watched!
