- 4/23 8:50 pm - I like that you chose a unique topic to your community to highlight. I second the comments below and do not want to be redundant. This was one of my favorite pieces. Here is a way you can improve. Listen to your subjects answers and see if you can place your b-roll better or find where certain crutch words could be eliminated. Also, footage. Did you ask for it though your subjects? I think it is great that you had photos, but there's something to be said to see a room packed full of people cheering these teams on. Otherwise, I really enjoyed this piece. If you are an underclassman, keep making pieces. If you are a senior, I wish you the best in your future and congratulations!
- 3/16 8:30 pm - So, I understood the story, but I guess I was hoping you would have set it up a little bit better. Was this a story about that one memorable year, was it a story about the 3 seniors, was it a story about this year’s team. I know it was all about that, but I guess I felt like the story was just always evolving, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but as a viewer I never really felt like I knew where it was going, or what points you wanted to make. The way the seniors talked about freshmen year it made it seem like they were down on the last two years teams. I am not saying they were, but that is a little of how it came across. I also wasn’t sure what their goal was, were they looking for another first-place finish, or will they be happy with a trophy for 1st, 2nd or 3rd. I know every team wants to win, it was just hard as an outside viewer to know exactly what they were after (what confused the issue for me was when someone said they have gotten a trophy for the last 6 years and want to continue the tradition which makes me think a third-place trophy would be ok too). I did appreciate the line about all the hard work is not for nothing because if you try your best that you have nothing to regret ( I know I am butchering it, but it made them look more human rather than just being hungry for a trophy and that is it) I thought your B-roll was generally good because it fit with what you were saying, however after a while I felt like the b-roll just all looked the same. I would have loved to see more than just dancing, show me close ups, coaching moments, etc. it just always seemed to be the same wide shot.
