  • 2/24 1:38 pm - Pros: As always, the show open is very strong. Fantastic story to lead the show with. Very newsworthy and related to your audience. I appreciate the anchor giving context to the story and making themselves valuable. I love the newsroom shot. This seems like a donut live which is a very creative way to deliver. I know it was edited for time but the story does seem long if in fact it was just 1-2 soundbites. Maybe could've worked better as a anchor or reporter toss to package (wait, it might have been, the editing for time might have thrown me for a loop). Second story was also good, I appreciated the seriousness that it was presented with. Third story was very strong as well and informative. This is a very strong show. Cons: I don't know if this is an effect or just the lights, but it seems like there is some filter into the lens at the start of the show. Feels a little to staged for a newscast. Lots of words on the screen for the first OTS. Only issue with newsroom lead in is the fact that the anchor just gave us nearly 30 seconds of intro, and now the newsroom reporter does another 20 seconds. First story in the show took up probably 3-4 minutes and I didn't feel like it covered that much ground. Again, with the edited version was tough to completely tell.

Positives: Nice use of graphics Excellent use of B roll

Improvements: Hard to judge the quality of the packages as they are edited for time Perhaps a little more interaction between anchors and reporters

Positives: What a number of reporters! That's fantastic! Each reporter did stories all ages of viewers would care about. They aren't just picking school issues, they are stepping out in the community and talking to people. Great job! Great graphics! All anchors have personality which is important! This newscast kept me interested the entire time.

Improvements: There wasn't really a welcome. The intro into the first story was too long for an anchor to read. Spilt that up between two anchors and leave it on a two shot. The three shot between the two anchors and the meteorologist is awkward. The weather woman is much taller than the two anchors. Either the anchors need taller chairs, or the meteorologist needs to sit for this shot. The meteorologist is much taller than the graphics as well. It looks strange. I know she's on a green screen, but have her step back. It looks like the camera was not set up right for the shot. The sports man looks so small compared to the virtual set. Also, the dissolve to the tight shot was strange. Maybe put a stinger or a transition in there instead.

Positives: I liked that you included stories involving the school and community I liked the interaction with anchors/weather

Improvements: I felt like Zach had a lot more reads then Sarah. Try and make them more even and I would've given Sarah the second read - it took too long for us to hear from her. I know the show was edited for time - but based on editing I can already tell that some of the packages were way too long. In news we try and keep them 1:30. People have limited attention spans- keep it tight and interesting.
